Composition

Jack Prest composes music and develops sound works for performance, dance, film, installation, and interdisciplinary projects.

His compositional practice combines electronic sound, acoustic instrumentation, spatial design, improvisation, and studio-based processes to create works that are physically immersive and emotionally precise. Rather than functioning as accompaniment alone, his compositions are often developed as structural elements within a wider work, shaping movement, pacing, tension, and atmosphere across performance environments.

He has collaborated with choreographers, filmmakers, performers, and artists across a wide range of contemporary arts contexts, developing original scores and sound works for theatre, dance, gallery, and live performance settings.

This work includes The Risk Of Hyperbole, commissioned by Phoenix Central Park, alongside projects and performances presented through institutions and festivals including Sydney Opera House, Sadler’s Wells, Sziget Festival, Art Gallery of NSW, and Sydney Festival.

Jack’s approach to composition is grounded in close collaboration and a sensitivity to the relationship between sound, space, and physical experience. His work moves between abstract electronic textures, rhythmic structures, ensemble recording, and extended sonic environments depending on the needs of the project.
