MIX - MASTER - RECORD
Jack Prest is a recording, mix, and mastering engineer based in Sydney, Australia, working across contemporary electronic, jazz, experimental, and orchestral music.
His approach is grounded in musicality and structure. Rather than treating engineering as a purely technical process, he works with sound as compositional material, shaping tone, depth, and dynamics to serve the identity of the music.
With over a decade of experience across independent music, commercial studio environments, and large-scale recording sessions, Jack brings a hybrid practice informed by both experimental production and high-fidelity ensemble recording.
His work spans electronic production, improvised music, acoustic recording, hybrid arrangements, and large ensemble sessions, with a focus on clarity, dynamics, atmosphere, and spatial coherence. Whether working on densely layered productions or minimal acoustic recordings, the goal remains the same: to realise the strongest and most intentional version of the music.
Alongside long-term collaborations within Australia’s left-field electronic and jazz communities — including work with Godtet and a broad range of independent artists — Jack has also worked within orchestral and broadcast recording environments through projects for ABC Classic and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Jack is an Associate Engineer at Studios 301.

Approach
Every project is approached as a complete sonic environment.
The focus is not excessive polish or technical perfection for its own sake, but creating mixes and recordings that feel emotionally coherent, structurally balanced, and true to the identity of the work. This often involves close attention to dynamics, frequency interaction, pacing, and the physical sense of space within a record.
