TRADITIONAL LATE NIGHT DRINKING

The second instalment in the Future Love Hangover interdisciplinary project. Released in 2015.

Traditional Late Night Drinking is the second album and exposure in Jack Prest’s art pop interdisciplinary project Future Love Hangover. Continuing the story from Ecstatic Yours Truly, Jack has returned from an indeterminable amount of time in a void of pure light and colour with a vision of how to create a machine for travelling forward in time.

The album was recorded at Studios 301 with support of the Australia Council through their new works grant via the music board. It was the beginning of Jack’s process of harnessing improvisation and combining it with electronic music production. It was the start of Jack’s work with longtime collaborator Ben Freeman along with Sydney musicians Daniel Gildenhuys, Miles Sharm-Constance and Jess Fitzpatrick. Jack also collaborated with writer and visual artist James Watkins on the lyrics for some songs and the album artwork which is a drawing by Watkins.

Traditional Late Night Drinking is presented as a purpose built website (or exposure) for the streaming and download of the album. The above image is a screenshot of website featuring the album tracklist. This album differed from Ecstatic Yours Truly in that it was a visual album with a video to accompany each song. These ranged from fully fledged music videos to abstract video art. The videos directed, edited and conceived by Jack and created in collaboration with projection artist and VJ Tom Hetherington. The are all found as a part of the album/website experience.

Listen to the album and experience the website here.

The above video is a great representation of Jack’s collaboration with Tom Hethrington and features the “Time Machine” projection mapped sculpture created by Jack and Tom. This sculpture formed the basis for the live performance for the album which included a performance at The Basement as a part of the 2014 Vivid Festival. Below is the other main film clip for the album this feature costumes designed by Rita Carmody and was filmed and edited by Aiden Keogh.

Below are a selection of the images that formed a part of the exposure, these images are in collaboration with Jordon Charles Stokes and Tom Hetherington
